Ekiti Youth Parliament Triumphs in Ghana: BAO Sponsorship Leads to Multiple Awards at Legon, Accra

 

Ekiti State has once again demonstrated its excellence on the international stage as the Ekiti Youth Parliament, sponsored by the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), made a remarkable impact at the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference held in Legon, Accra, Ghana. This prestigious event brought together young leaders from across Africa to engage in simulations of UN debates, with the Ekiti delegation distinguishing itself through a series of impressive accomplishments.

Under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Olusanya Babatunde Nathaniel, Speaker of the Ekiti State Youth Parliament, the delegation earned several notable awards:

- Best Dressed Female (UN-WHO): Celebrating the elegance and cultural heritage of Ekiti, one of the female delegates was honored for her outstanding representation during the World Health Organization simulation.

- Best Dressed Male (UN-COP28): A male delegate also stood out for his exceptional attire, earning recognition during the COP28 simulation on climate change.

- Most Honorable Mentions (UN Security Council): The delegation's skillful participation in the UN Security Council debates garnered them the esteemed "Most Honorable Mentions" award.

- Winner of the Afro Jollof Cooking Competition: Demonstrating versatility beyond parliamentary skills, the Ekiti Youth Parliament triumphed in the Afro Jollof cooking competition, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of Nigeria.

- Secretary of UN-UNESCO: In a remarkable achievement, especially as a first-time participant, a member of the Ekiti delegation was elected as the Secretary of the UN-UNESCO committee, highlighting their leadership and diplomatic acumen.

The conference featured two general assembly sessions, various committee debates, and a vibrant "Global Village" cultural showcase. During this showcase, a member of the Ekiti Youth Parliament was also recognized as the winner of the male delegate category, further emphasizing the cultural and intellectual prowess of the delegation.

Rt. Hon. Olusanya Babatunde Nathaniel expressed profound pride in the delegation's achievements, attributing their success to the support of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who remains committed to empowering the youth of Ekiti State. He emphasized that the experiences and exposure gained at the MUN conference will play a crucial role in the personal and professional development of the youth parliamentarians, ultimately contributing to the advancement of Ekiti State.
